The app idea checklist.
A few things worth thinking about before you start. You don't need every answer — this just helps us have a better first call.
The idea in one line
- ✓I can say what the app does in one sentence.
- ✓I know the one main thing a user should be able to do.
- ✓I know why someone would use this instead of what they do today.
Who it's for
- ✓I know who the app is for, and the problem it solves for them.
- ✓I know where they are today — a website, an app, a spreadsheet, a phone call.
- ✓If there are two sides (like buyers and sellers), I know what each side gets.
The must-haves
- ✓I can list the 3–5 features the first version really needs.
- ✓I know what can wait until later.
- ✓I know if it needs to be on the web, on phones, or both.
- ✓I know if people need to log in, and if any data is sensitive.
Money and time
- ✓I know roughly what I can invest in the first version.
- ✓I know if the app needs to take payments, and how.
- ✓I have a date or event I'm working towards, if any.
Getting started
- ✓I have a couple of example apps or sites I like.
- ✓I'm the decision-maker, or I know who is.
- ✓I can give feedback on a weekly demo.
